Private Thomas Knight
2953
6th Battalion Devonshire Regiment

Died 08.03.16  aged 32

Thomas Knight was born about 1884, the son of John Knight an agricultural labourer from Iddesleigh who had married Louisa Brook.  Although born in Broadwoodkelly, Thomas had a strong link with Winkleigh; his mother Louisa was born in Winkleigh into a family that came from Winkleigh.  Thus it would not have been strange for him when his parents came to live in Penson Cottage near Hollocombe between 1893 and 1896, where Thomas became a farm labourer.  Thomas met his wife, Emily Ellacott, who lived nearby in the Winkleigh parish, and they eventually married at the end of 1910.  By the 1911 census, they were living in Broadwoodkelly and they had only one child James who had been born in Hatherleigh.

The war history of Thomas Knight is in preparation and will be available here soon.
